At the meeting will be Jesse Salazar, who heads Senator Casey’s statewide LGBT and Latino Affairs. Also present will be Gary van Horn, president of the Delta Foundation in Pittsburgh. We will be discussing legislation and legislative advocacy related to the GLBT community. Israeli and Palestinian Youth Peace Activists to Visit Allegheny College
MEADVILLE, Pa. – Palestinian and Israeli youth peace activists from the OneVoice Movement will present two free public events at Allegheny College in February to discuss the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
Daniella Shlomo and William Salama will speak in the Tillotson Room of the Tippie Alumni Center on Thursday, Feb. 18 at 7:30 p.m. They also will conduct a workshop on conflict resolution on Friday, Feb. 19 from 10 to 11:30 a.m. in Room 301/302 of the Henderson Campus Center. Shlomo and Salama will present a model of compromise and joint action for groups on campuses and in communities.
The OneVoice Movement is an international grassroots movement that seeks to end occupation and violence and work toward a viable, independent Palestinian state at peace with Israel. The organization has more than 650,000 signatories as well as 1,800 highly trained youth leaders. These leaders work within their communities to share a message of moderation, non-violence and peaceful conflict resolution.

National Wildlife Federation President to Speak at Allegheny College
MEADVILLE, Pa. – Larry Schweiger, president and CEO of the National Wildlife Federation, will present a free public talk, “Last Chance: Preserving Life on Earth,” on Monday, March 8 at 7 p.m. in Quigley Hall auditorium at Allegheny College.
Schweiger—whose book, “Last Chance: Preserving Life on Earth,” was published in 2009—will discuss the impact of climate change on wildlife and humans. His presentation will address climate change in a variety of contexts: from Lake Erie to the icebergs of Greenland, and from Congress to America’s classrooms and farmlands. Schweiger seeks to remind people that they have a duty to act as the Earth’s caretakers, not just its inhabitants.

A free Consumer Fair will be held on Tuesday, March 9th from 10AM until 2PM at the Millcreek Mall in Erie. The event is hosted by the Pennsylvania Office of Attorney General and will feature vendors from federal, state and local public service agencies. Free blood pressure screening will also be offered. This event will be a one-stop venue for the community to come in and meet with representatives from the various agencies and to obtain information. Some of the vendors scheduled to attend include: AARP Erie VA Medical Center Erie Veteran's Center Readjustment Counseling GECAC Area Agency on Aging and Headstart Programs Erie County Human Relations Commission Social Security Administration Pennsylvania State Police Visiting Nurse Association and many more!

Ruth Bader Ginsburg was nominated by President Clinton as associate justice of the United States Supreme Court in June 1993, and took the oath of office in August 1993. She was a professor of law at Columbia University and earlier served on the law faculty at Rutgers. She has also taught at many other law schools in the U.S. and abroad. In 1971, she was instrumental in launching the Women's Rights Project of the American Civil Liberties Union. Throughout the '70's, she litigated a series of cases solidifying a constitutional principle against gender-based discrimination. (Previously recorded presentation).

Marilyn Lacey, RSM, founder and executive director of Mercy Beyond Borders, will deliver a free public lecture on Tuesday, March 9, at 8:15 p.m. in the college’s Walker Recital Hall. Presque Isle Parrothead Club puts on a Haiti Benefit on March 20 at Zem Zem Shrine Club, 2525 W. 38th St., with the Uncles, Key West Express, and Thirst 'n Howl. The event includes raffles and a silent auction. Admission will be $5.
